Lorikeets are a flock bird and depend on being part of a large flock
for their socialization.

A small number of lorikeets kept in a cage go insane and keeping them
in such conditions is cruel beyond belief.

I had a Rainbow Lorikeet for many years and it certainly did not go insane.
It was a major part of our family and it intergrated with us and everything
we did.
It was never kept at all times in a cage as its door was always left open,
but it retreated to its cage at night and when scared.
There was nothing cruel about the keeping of our Lorikeet as it was very
healthy and happy and it is very unwise to assume that this bird is kept in
lesser conditions without proof.

we have a female as a pet or she has us as a pet) and she lives in her cage,
the door is never closed and she comes and goes as she wants.

We got her in Darwin, undersize and eventually found she had thrush and
treated her.

That was 9 years ago and she considers herself part of the her flock - she
is certainly not unhappy and is very gregarious.

Just out of curiosity, did you ("Microbot" or "someone") clip your
lorikeet's wings? We keep our cockatiel under similar conditions, but
find that if we don't clip his wings, he ends up running into windows &
stuff.

I realise this is rather off-topic, so pointers to another appropriate
forum would be fine. :-)

Thanks,
Paul

Rubbish, I have a female Rainbow lorikeet and it is the happiest bird
alive. She runs the house.
